Ethiopia-Djibouti New Train Service Shows Benefits

(Feb 26, (Addis Ababa, (Prensa Latina)))--The Ethio-Djibouti railway service, opened on January 1, is showing today a favorable performance and economic benefits seen by both nations.
This was stated by Tilahun Sarika, General Director of Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company, after stating that this means of transportation is making constant and effective face-to-face communication between Ethiopia and Djibuoti.

The citizens from these two territories were a single society. Nations and nationalities, as well as the peoples of the two countries, have been for centuries living together; its chemistry is not created by this transport system, but the railway service will further increase those items in common, Sarika said.

The countries agreed that the passengers cross the border without any inspection when they seal passport approval. The company expects that the train service will generate employment opportunities for the towns on the route, but to be effective, it asks the citizens from both countries to cooperate in everything necessary.

The former Ethio-Djibouti railway was built in 1894-1917 to connect Addis Ababa with the French colonial port city of Djibouti. Read more from TravelDailyNews International »
