At least 1,500 protesters arrested during Ethiopian state of emergency

(Oct 22, 2016, (cctv))--Ethiopian authorities have arrested at least one-thousand-five-hundred protesters for violence and property damage, under a six-month state of emergency which was declared less than two weeks ago.

According to the country's state media, protesters targeted foreign factories and burnt farms across the Oromia region. Authorities also seized hundreds of looted weapons. The region has seen months of anti-government protests, and the state of emergency was imposed after a stampede at an Oromo religious festival killed over 50 people on October the second.
