Hong Kong to Tokyo Ethiopian style

(Aug 23, 2015, (eTurboNews))--Ethiopian Airlines earlier this month secured 5th freedom traffic rights on their flights from Addis Ababa via Hong Kong to Tokyo Narita, presently the only direct connection from Japan to Africa.

The three times a week service, operated with the airline’s flagship aircraft B787 Dreamliner, will use a dual airline code, incorporating All Nippon Airways, a fellow Star Alliance carrier. Traffic days out of Addis Ababa are Monday, Wednesday and Friday while the return services land back in Ethiopia on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday respectively.

The codeshare will add to the financial viability of the service as additional passengers and cargo can be uplifted from Hong Kong to Tokyo and vice versa, over and above the passengers already on board out of Addis Ababa.

According to the same source were code share operations with Air India, also a Star Alliance member, more recently also expanded to give the Indian flag carrier access to flights beyond Addis Ababa. Entebbe, Kigali, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and even Harare are now codeshared on Ethiopian Airlines’ flights while ET in turn has gained extra destinations like Bangalore, Ahemdabad, Hyderabad and Chennai.
