Ethiopia sack coach Mariano Barreto

(Apr 04, 2015, (Super Sport))--Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) cracked the whip on Friday after they sacked their Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto.  The decision was arrived after lengthy talks between the EFF executive led by President Junedin Basha. Sources at EFF toldsupersport.com that the decision to sack the coach was arrived at after he failed to deliver on his promise one year after being appointed.

Speaking to supersport.com Basha however failed to confirm about the sack intimating "I cannot confirm anything at this moment but please call me later in the afternoon after we deliberate on the issue before issuing a conclusive statement," Basha said.

He was appointed in March last year taking over from Sewnet Bishaw who had a successful stint with the team guiding them to Afcon 2013 after a 31 year wait.

Barreto's tenure has been marred by poor results only managing to win one match against Mali in the 2015 an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier but they were later knocked out and failed to qualify for the tourney. Read more from Super Sport »
