Ethiopia elects new Patriarch for Orthodox church

(Feb 2013, Reporter)--Six months after the death of the head of Ethiopain Orthodox Tewahdo Church, Abune Paulos, Abune Mathias has been elected this afternoon to become the sixth Patriarch of the church securing an overwhelmingly wide margin win.


Abune Mathias, 71, was the head of Ethiopian Orthodox churches and monasteries in Israel.
According to the latest poll, Abune Mathias secured 500 votes while the other four candidates managed to get a total of 305 votes. Abune Matewos got 98 votes, Abune Hizk'el 70 votes, Abune  Yosef 98 votes and Abune Elsa managed to get a meager 39 votes.
